$1.8 million in funds to improve health in northern New Mexico

Santa Fe, New Mexico — $1.8 million in funding was awarded to 50 nonprofit organizations this month to support improved health outcomes in Northern New Mexico. The Community Health Funder Alliance released its second round of annual grants, bringing its total investment in health outcomes in Northern New Mexico to $3.6 million.

Since its launch in 2019, The Community Health Funder Alliance has become instrumental to supporting organizations and communities during the pandemic. Through grantmaking and partnership, the Alliance helps further solutions that heal, care for, and sustain healthy people and communities. The Alliance members currently include Anchorum St. Vincent, CHRISTUS St. Vincent (CSV), and the Santa Fe Community Foundation.

Across northern New Mexico, hundreds of nonprofits are working day and night to heal and provide essential care and services in communities,” said Lillian Montoya, President and Chief Executive Officer of CHRISTUS St. Vincent. These leaders show up for their communities. And we, as an Alliance, show up for them.”

Together, the Alliance supports nonprofits in health and wellness across the lifespan: from maternal health and early childhood to school-age children, adolescent, adult and senior health services. The Alliance also invests in social determinants of health including housing and homelessness, healthy food, and healthy neighborhoods.

The Alliances grant making includes annual Community Grants ($5,000 to $15,000) to sustain efforts, and multi-year Health Impact Grants ($20,000 to $175,000 per year) to build momentum for long-term, far-reaching solutions.

The Alliances structure and method of collaboration provides a unique vantage point. CHRISTUS St. Vincent can feel the pulse of communities in its hospital rooms, the Santa Fe Community Foundation offers 40 years of experience as a local funder with deep connections to nonprofits, and Anchorums resources and expertise as a health impact organization inform strategic investments.

“COVID-19 and its effects have underscored the importance of the critical services provided by our nonprofit partners and the need for stronger capacity, deeper partnerships, and responsive funding,” said Peter Bastone, President and CEO of Anchorum St. Vincent.

By combining our efforts as funders, and leveraging our unique strengths, we are in a much better position to help our most vulnerable friends and neighbors,” said Sue Coliton, Interim CEO of the Santa Fe Community Foundation.
