Leading Health Funders in Northern New Mexico Offer $1.8 Million in Grants to Nonprofits for Better Health Outcomes in 2020

Santa Fe, New Mexico – Three leading health funders in the state have come together to announce $1.8 million in joint funding for nonprofit organizations in northern New Mexico. The newly formed Community Health Funder Alliance, led by Anchorum St. Vincent, CHRISTUS St. Vincent, and the Santa Fe Community Foundation, aims to support nonprofits working to improve health outcomes and strengthen local systems of care in northern New Mexico. While this funding is not in response to COVID-19, it builds capacity, strengthening and supporting local community health programs that serve families across northern New Mexico.

“There are many challenges we face in today’s world,” said Lillian Montoya, President and Chief Executive Officer of CHRISTUS St. Vincent. “It is essential that nonprofit providers have greater capacity to deliver the services needed to address critical health and social needs.”

The Alliance’s mission is to strengthen the system of care in our community and achieve greater impact on health outcomes. Anchorum St. Vincent, CHRISTUS St. Vincent, and the Santa Fe Community Foundation coming together doesn’t only mean $1.8 million resources for nonprofits and programs. It means that those who are working in community have less of an administrative burden in applying for funds. Additionally, the Alliance aims to build connections and promote more effective reporting and data collection to meaningfully influence health outcomes across northern New Mexico.

“Our health systems are already complex enough,” said Peter Bastone, President and CEO of Anchorum St. Vincent. “Streamlining the application process saves nonprofits valuable time, increases their access to resources, and promotes better data collection for us to track—and effectively support—the programs that are improving health in our communities.”

The Community Health Funder Alliance is currently accepting applications to its first cycle of Community Grants. This year’s cycle is open until April 9th. Community Grants are annual, open, competitive grants of anywhere between $5,000 and

$15,000. These grants, which will total $350,000 this year, will be awarded annually to new and existing community health programs. In addition, the Alliance’s Health Impact Grant program, which will total $1.5 million in 2020, is offering multi-year grants—by invitation only—to programs that significantly contribute to improved health outcomes in northern New Mexico.

“By combining our efforts as funders, and leveraging our unique strengths, we are in a much better position to help our most vulnerable friends and neighbors,” said William (Bill) Smith, President and CEO of the Santa Fe Community Foundation.
